Tiny sparks of color shifted and glittered as it breezed through the air, swirling around a woman as she opened the door to her home. The tower in the Whispering Woods had been there for centuries. Its foundation stone had been laid when the woods were just saplings for the tower to overlook. Now many of the trees loomed over the tower itself which was just fine with her. It protected her privacy.
As she stepped inside the tower there was a musical chime that shimmered across the stone walls. Her only servant slowly moved to take her things. "Welcome home, Jalayna! How were things at the Citadel?"
Jalayna sighed as she crossed to the stairs leading up to her aerie. "The Citadel of Magic is as it always is. I am grateful to be home! So many bright-eyed and eager people wanting to learn from us, yet not much talent between them more than oh, say, your basic hedge wizard. Not a one of them was worthy to apprentice to me, though."
"So sorry your trip was wasted," her servant said as he took his usual place.
Jalayna smiled as she started to ascend the stairs. "Not all a waste," she called over her shoulder. "Berylin and I took a side trip and found some promising nesting spots in the Mountains of Mist. But until she's ready, I have work to do, as always."
With a short nod, Jalayna's servant understood the implied instruction. "Yes," he said. "I'll see you are not disturbed by every curious villager who hears you have returned."
"My thanks!" Jalayna's voice drifted down, as she climbed the spirals ever upward to the topmost part of her tower. It was good to be home.
Jalayna the Wise has returned to her tower in the Whispering Woods, but casual drop-ins are not encouraged. She does not like her time wasted, after all.
